Casino el Camino ups the Bloody Mary game (Credit: De Tiffany) Everywhere I went on my Bloody Mary Tasting Tour of Austin, I heard tales far and wide of Casino El Camino infamous Bloody Mary. For good reason, it turns out, as the Frappy Mary is stacked high with garnishes such as bacon (lots of bacon!), celery, pickled veggies, and cucumber slices.
Casino El Camino
Casino El Camino is a great place to grab one of the best bloody mary’s in town, so it may be surprising that it’s located on Dirty 6th. This version can be a bit spicy so be sure to tell them what you’re fire level is beforehand. It’s garnished with enough food items to be a meal, but be careful because you will want to leave room for their famous burger to pair it with. Be forewarned, this dive bar also plays really loud music.

Star Bar
Down the road on W. 6th St., you’ll find the Hail Mary. The bloody mary where breakfast meets lunch includes donuts and cinnamon roll garnishes skewered on one side and a cheeseburger slider complete with fried pickle on the other. Who needs a food order when you can just drink your brunch?!

Freedmen’s
Go hungry to this destination, but not for the food; at Freedmen’s, it’s all about the bloody mary. A must have, the Holy Mary with Holy Trinity is the ultimate divine intervention. Made with a quart of Forty Creek, this version is made with whiskey, but can be made with vodka if you prefer. It’s topped by a half pound of their famous spicy brisket, incredible sausage, and sweet spare ribs…. is your mouth watering yet?

Frank
Get down to the warehouse district downtown and slip into Frank for their Red Headed Stranger. Known for hot dogs and cold beer, Frank mixes up a bloody mary that is a nice diversion from the norm. While it may not be the most over the top garnished cocktail, this bloody mary features bacon infused Tito’s vodka, house-made Frank Bloody Mary mix, and Frank signature seasoned salt. Add garnishes of crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapeño stuffed olive, and pepperoncini, and you’ll be left craving one every day of the week.

Pluckers
Austin-based Pluckers has expanded to multiple locations across the south, which means lots of people get to taste their fabulous bloody mary. This little piece of heaven comes with one of their famous chicken wings, a fried pickle spear, and maple bacon. This cocktail pairs well with an order of garlic parmesan and lemon pepper wings.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
Snooze offers a variety of bloody marys; all versions feature their house-made bloody mary mix and are a must try at this early morning eatery. You can have a spicy version made with habanero or jalapeño infused vodka. The Green Tom is made with green tomatoes, cucumber, jalapeño, and rosemary and is like a refreshing salad in your mouth. A more daring version is the Boss Hog, made with bacon-infused bourbon. And for the adventurous drinkers, there’s the Bangkok made with sriracha sauce, cilantro, lime, basil, and fish sauce.

Weather Up
The east side boasts many cool bars with new ones popping up almost monthly. One of the originals in the area features a simple, tasty bloody mary garnished with a large pickle spear. What makes this one stand out is what you sip your cocktail through – a metal straw that keeps your drink extra cold on a hot summer day.
